Presentation skills

It is necessary to organise the material in a logical way to make an effective presentation. That is first of all giving the introduction about the topic, the main body, conclusion and then summary.
There must be a planning that among the members who will talk first an on what title. Than when finished, we should know when to hand over to the other member. At last when the time for question and answering come, we should plan how to handle them.
It will be easier and effective if reading a script is avoided and break every talk in sections with a heading. Before going for the presentation, it is essential to do a rehearsing. It is because, it helps to reduce the nerves and to get confident for performance. It also helps you to be aware of timing and most importantly to improved our weakness and to know our strength. It is important to make sure that everything is set up before we start. while giving the presentation, it will sounds and look more effective when we speak slowly, confidently without reading the notes and making eye contact with the smile on face.

Effective communication

Communication is mode of exchanging the information between two or more then two parties. Similarly, effective communication means exchanging the information in clear and correct way. It means no one will get confuse or misunderstanding while communicating. If one person doesn't use effective communication then that might cause misunderstanding. In the same way, it is very important to have a staff with a effective communication skill in the organisation. It is because if the employee and employer  lack in effective communication, there is a high possibility of having misunderstanding between them. also there might be issue of lack of information, poor productivity due to poor performance in the organisation.Staffs might get de- motivated as- well and increase in staffs turnover. Therefore, it is very important to have and to use effective communication while exchanging the information to pass the correct information, to motivate the staffs, to produce a quality of productivity and to decrease the possibility of having misunderstanding. mindmapping


A mind maps is a diagram which is use for presenting our concept and ideas. In the mind map there is always a main topic or subject. It is basically in Tree format. Using a diagram, we can show the words or ideas that linked to the main topic. Also the diagram is use to classify the main subject. It is a tool of visual thinking that helps in organising  information, analysing them, generating the new ideas and making decision.
The benefits of mind mapping is it helps to organise our thought and to remember them more easily. It also helps in solving the problem and brainstorming the new ideas. We can increase the productivity with the helps of this clarity. It also helps to make better decision and communicate much better.

Video Session

         Today we had a video session in our class. At first we were provided with a chart paper and in that paper, we were supposed to write the bullet points about our self which include personal biography such as our name, currently what we are doing, achievements or qualification that we have, write about our set targeted goals and how we going to achieve it.
         After when we were finish writing with that part, we were asked to do the video session one by one which was taken by our MPD's teacher in one small room where our interview part was capture in a video. The video session was actually about the interview which was taken for our future practice. For example: to help us to build confident and what is good to say about our self while we are in interview. We were given three minutes to talk about our  self and in between if we finish our talking before three minutes then our teacher guide us by asking some questions as a interview taking person.
       To face a camera, talk something about own self  and on top of that to talk in front of our teacher was quit hard but it was a new good experience though. I think video session was good to do because it helps me to boost up my confident level and also now I have some idea that what kind of question that my employer could ask to me while taking an interview. In this way the video session has helped me to face the interview, build up of my confident level and develop the skills in which I lack most.

process of good decision making

           Everyone make the decision but the very important thing is to know weather the decision you have make  is useful or not. It can be stressful if we can't make the correct decision on time. In that situation, what we have to always remember is that the decision making is a kind of process and to reach the success, we have to go through so many stages.
          we should always be clear about the objectives that we have targeted for the end, so according to that we can proceed towards the objectives. It is also important to be clear about what our constraints are so that we can tackle with it and come out with the appropriate decision or result in order to make it. We have to research the process of alternatives thoroughly and make short-list of it . It is good to be initiative so you can involve in the decision making and understand the process. While doing that you will get the opportunity to develop your and decision making skill as well. It will be great for your company as well, if you can help then to solve the problems by making a effective decision.

The job interview

             If you have been selected for your job interview, it means you have impressed the employer by your application form, the covering letter and the CV that you have sent. It will show that you have convinced the employer to consider to give you a job opportunity in some extends in his company. This all reflects the importance of writing CV and covering letter in an effective way relating it to the job which you are applying for. However, by making an impression on paper only is not enough. The day of the interview, it is most important day, where you have to present yourself very well. First of all the most important thing that you need to do before facing an interview is to prepared yourself. It will be better that if you check your travel time in advance so that you can reach for the interview on time. Being prepare before you go for your interview will also help you a lot. For example: practice some question and answer that employer may ask while taking an interview, this can boost you up to be a confident. Also prepare or make the require documents, such as CV or any kind of certificates ready which are related and may require while giving an interview to get the job. Wearing a smart dress in a proper manner with a hair done help you to get a plus point. It will be even better if you speak confidently with the smile on your face. This may impress your employer to give you a job in first place

Three main key aspect- application form, covering letter and CV

         Today is the world of 21st century. These days in market everything are changing and being more competitive. In the same way, it has been more difficult to build a career in the place where we want to be in  future. Even though there are so many good opportunities, It is not that easy to grab them. The reason behind it is, because now a days, employer wants to hire the employee who has the ability to do the work as require. therefore in order to get the job as we want, it is very much important to look after three key aspect and they are application form, covering letter and C.V.
          First of all before choosing the candidate for an interview, the employer most of the time look at the applicant covering letter or CV. In that case it is very much important to be careful while writing it because that will be the first impression that you can give to your employer about yourself. The covering letter and CV has to be properly written and well presented about your strengths and skills, due to which there will be a high chance of getting the interview or job. the other thing which should be taken as important is reference. When we ask for the reference, it is very much important to ensure that you give right person to write about yourself.

         We can always choose what we want to be in future. Once you choose what you want to be than it is necessary to think how you can reach there.
          At first place, it is important to set a target. Setting a target means where you want to be in future career. To reach the destiny of desire, first of all it is very much important to set an target but only setting the target won't do. It is also very much important to make a step by step plan as well to complete it. Making a short term, mid term and long term plan will help a lot to success one targeted goal. It will be more beneficial  if we try to get full information or research regarding the targeted goals we have. We can note our step by step plan and start working on it until we get success. The first thing which we should consider when we start working towards our goal is time management. Sometimes what happen is we may lost the track, so that is why it is also very much important to keep checking our plans and what activities we are doing to achieve it also the progress level towards it. For example: I want to pass my degree course in a very good grades, this is my short term goal and how I am going to succeed it is by studying hard, improving my academic skills and to do that I need to do a time management. Secondly, in future I want to work as a General manager in a seven star hotel, which is my long term goal n for that I am in process of achieving academic qualification and working in a hotel as a receptionist. Therefore, in future there will be more likely to get a job for me in the place where I want.

Personal and career management

  Everyone wants to have the career of their desire but every time it is not possible. The thing doesn’t turn as we wish because first of all it is very important to set a target for career in our life. We all should have plan for our future in order to achieve it's targeted goal. 
         As we know, it is not that easy to get what we want, in that case we need to have some target and plan for it. We have to stay focus and be serious regarding our career. It is basically, where you are and where you want to be in a future. It is very much important to make a plan that how you going to work out so that you can reach your destiny. Obviously the set target should be realistic. There should be some planning that what you want to do and how are you going to do it. It is important to have time management so that we will know which work to do on what time, a hard work, willing to learn something and improvement in the skills in which you lack. This way it will help to be a person that you want to be in future. The more specific we will be in our target; it will be easier for us to reach there. It is useful to check our strength and weakness so that we can make development and planning according to that.

Learning style

       Today in class, we did some VARK questionnaire, where V stand for Visual, A stands for Aural/ Auditory, R stands for Reading and K stands for kinaesthetic. After completing the questionnaire, it help me to find out what kind of learner I am. According to the points of  questionnaire, I was classified as an "Aural and Kinaesthetic" style of learner. That means, the easier way I learn is by listening or by doing things practically rather then reading or in any other way.
       The time when I didn't knew about my learning style sometimes, I used to have a difficulty in understanding the part of my reading easily or to do an assignment . Since,I was not aware of my learning style, I used to waste a lot of times reading the books or subjects  over and over or correcting the assignments again and again. Later, when I discover my learning style, I apply it on my academic place and it does really work. Even I have apply this learning style in my work place as well and it has really help me out to learn things really quickly. This means it is very much important to know our learning style because it saves our time, there won't be any stress or difficulty while  learning new things weather it is for your academic or work place.

1st day in MPD class

        My name is Aruna Gurung. I am studying FDA in Hospitality Management at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London college. This unit name is MPD and it is stand for Managing Professional Development. The module is all about managing ourself in order to reach the destination we desire of. It gives us idea about how to set up the target and what are the essential process that we need to follow to make it comes real.
        In our first class of  MPD 's session, we learned to set up the account in hotmail, to make documents and how to add files in the folders. We also set up the account in blogger.com, so that every week we have to write a blog, reflecting on what we did in each class. It was a good new experience to learn how to write a blog and use the more useful function of hotmail. This module seems to be really interesting too. I believe it is going to be very helpful for our future, to make our career.
        We did skills audit as a main part of the lesson, where we learned that it is very important to know what skills do we have, what new skills we need and why is it important to have skills such as reading, writing, leadership, management etc. It is because once we know our skills we can set an target for our future and make a plan according to that. If our skills are not good enough then we need to  improve it in order to achieve the targeted goal. we can always set an target in short, mid and long term base which can help us to move towards our destination of career or life.

Second session of class

          I couldn't attend my second session of class because I was sick. I e-mailed my tutor saying that I won't be able to come and attend the class. In that case what my tutor did was she helped me to do the part that whatever I had missed. This really motivates me to study hard which I think is really good and I really want to thanks my tutor for helping me.
         In that session the part which we need to fill was key skills, voluntry experience/ training, improvement required, qualification and work experience. To set the target for the future we need to figure out the current career situation. Any skills work experience, academic qualification or the achievements that we have gain from extra -curriculum activities can help us to set a target. In the same way the employer might be looking after the person who has good skills such as communicating, IT, management or good academic qualification and who has some knowledge or experience about their company. Therefore, it is good to find out what your weakness are so according to that you can improve yourself in many field such as skills which you can improve by the help of your tutor, friends, books and for the experience you can do some voluntarily work to make yourself feel more confident. The main fact thing is, to achieve this goals it is very necessary to have time management and planning because without that it will be quit hard to reach the destination of your target.
